Jennie Garth: hotter than Jaslene?

Remember that Alice + Olivia dress that Jennie wore to some benefit or other that was actually cute except for the jarring yellow belt? Well apparently America’s Next Top Model Jaslene wore the same dress out somewhere in NYC except she wore a really weird coat over it. Some site is comparing the two and asking readers to vote on who looked better – and Jennie is winning despite her 10+ year advantage over Jaslene. Guess people really hate Jaslene.

90210 v Gossip Girl

Annalynne McCord spoke out on the comparisons between 90210 and GG:

“We beat the makeup by far, I’ll tell ya that! But oh my god, Leighton [Meester] – I love her. She rocks that show.”

Oh DEAR. First of all, there’s no clothing war. That would not be a David & Goliath matchup, that would be the Mount Everest of Gossip Girl crushing the tiny ant that is 90210. Gossip Girl is fashion. 90210 is cheap shit teenage girls buy in the mall with their allowance money.

Second, let’s see why Leighton rocks so hard on that show. She’s an amazing actress, yes. But Blair’s character rocks that show and Blair rocks New York City. Why? Because she is an evil scheming bitch. She knows what she wants and she will stop at absolutely nothing to get it, no matter who or what is in her way. You know who is not at all like that in any way? Naomi. She’s friendly to crying Annie and hurts on her inside because of her family. That is not evil. That is not scheming. That is not bitchy. GET ON IT.

Silver’s cami, Lucky Strike

Dying to wear the big bright pseudo-painted camisole/tunic that Silver was wearing in the Lucky Strike scene of ep 3? You’re in luck – it’s by Hurley and is only $54. It is described by the company as having a “sublimated print sombrero man pattern,” which is not a meaningful phrase.

This info came from Teen Vogue, where they note that this top is affordable, unlike the clothes on Gossip Girl. I’m not sure this is a good thing. There are tons of sites devoted to cataloging and discussing the fashion on GG because it is inspiring and gorgeous. To my knowledge there are no sites dedicated to 90210 fashion, mainly because the only reason one would want information on most of the outfits is to be able to avoid duplicating them.

As an alternative, might I suggest this tunic from Diane Von Furstenberg Spring Ready to Wear?

Outfit check: Shenae Grimes on red carpet

This is at – not exactly sure, something for In Touch Magazine that took place at the Chateau Marmont.

This is a fundamentally unacceptable outfit (even if you give her a pass for the white thing on her wrist which might be a wristband for the party and not an appallingly mismatched bangle). There is absolutely no reason a girl this pretty should be swaddling herself in piles of earth toned cotton sleeveless shirts. I mean, she is too skinny, but wearing extra t-shirts is not an effective way to address that problem. (Eat, girl!)

And then – and then – we turn to the … not even sure what to call them. Bloomers with suspenders? Puffy jumper? Wrinkled pseudo-shorts with a paper bag waistband? A fucking monstrosity of monumental proportions? This is the kind of thing it seems great to wear when you have your period and are bloated and nothing with a button at the waist seems to fit and these are so easy breezy but you would STILL change before you left the house or really to do anything except clean leaves out of the gutters or something messy like that.

Also, the way the tights blend into the bloomers and the shoes or boots or whatever make her look a bit like a disembodied floating torso. With a puffy tummy. Overall: D-

Outfit check: Silver at Lucky Strike

Ok – let’s see what we have here.

• Tunic thingie with faux artistic rendering of a village or some such. Could be from H&M or Forever 21.
• Legging with a zipper at the ankle. These are actually interesting – exposed zippers are very now, very Lanvin Fall 2008. Not quite as cool as Lindsay Lohan leggings with built in leather knee pads, but ok.
• Geometric bracelet that looks like its in the American Apparel Afrika collection – so it makes sense that it’s showing up on a white, privileged girl with no concept of Africa.
• Pink Cons! Cute.

Overall: hate the tunic and the bracelet, but the rest is pretty ok. Given that she’s homeless (of her own making) and living out of a bag, a good showing. B.
